For anyone who isn't familiar with this advertisement, it was first introduced to the public in October of 2006 via YouTube. For those of you that have seen it, I'm sure you can agree with me that this ad received significant awareness almost instantaneously and has helped Dove to increase its brand awareness, not to mention its credibility as a caring brand. If not, perhaps the fact that "Evolution" won two awards at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, or that its views on YouTube now exceed ten million might change your mind... All for a promotional price of zero dollars and zero cents. Brilliant, if you ask me.
Dove Evolution was one of my first experiences (or at least first majorly memorable experiences) with a brand that chose YouTube as a primary medium to get their message across. For me, this ad was memorable because I knew they weren't directly trying to sell me something, but rather wanted to create awareness about an important issue in society.
All in all, A+ for Dove. It's not the easiest ordeal to create a viral video, but Dove has certainly mastered it.
